'Fragile Things' by Louise Corke

3 June 2025

At the Brisbane PSA's Junes meeting demo, Louise Corke invited us to explore the theme of fragility—not only in subject matter, but in artistic expression. From frosted petals to crumbling leaves, fine crockery to spider webs, she challenged us to reflect on what makes something feel delicate and how we can communicate that through mark-making, colour, and composition.

Using a frosty field scene and a couple of white wildflowers as her subject, Louise demonstrated how light blues, scribbly lines, and careful contrasts build a sense of cold and tenderness. Her thoughtful process and interactive discussion reminded us that fragility isn’t weakness—it’s a poetic invitation to notice beauty in what maybe fleeting.
