About The Demo:
Pastel Portrait from Life with Janet Hayes
In this live demonstration, Janet will create a pastel portrait from life, beginning with a charcoal drawing to establish structure, proportion and likeness before building tone and colour with pastel.
You’ll see how she develops the portrait step by step — from initial sketch through to finished work — while explaining her choice of materials, surface preparation and colour decisions. Janet will share the techniques she uses to capture convincing skin tones, strong values and a lively sense of character, along with practical tips for achieving both likeness and expression.
This demonstration is ideal for artists interested in portraiture, drawing foundations, and the effective layering of charcoal and pastel to create fresh, believable results.

Location: Mt Gravatt Showgrounds – Upper Level Community Hall 1644 Logan Road, Mount Gravatt QLD
Time: 6:30 PM arrival for a 7:00 PM start (until 8:45 PM)
