About The Demo:
In this pastel portrait demonstration, Petronella van Leusden will share her approach to capturing both likeness and a sense of presence through tone and gesture. She will explore how to plan a portrait with attention to background, posture, and character, and how to use tone and colour to develop form and expression.
The demo will also touch on including key features to suggest likeness, while allowing room for expression and mood.
This is a gentle and intuitive approach to portraiture that balances structure with sensitivity—ideal for artists looking to deepen their understanding of tone, colour, gesture, and visual interpretation.
