About The Demo:
Join us for an inspiring evening with renowned PSA Master Pastellist Chris Blake as he demonstrates how to draw people, cars or machinery without fear. Imagine you’re travelling, sketching on location of working from reference photos, Chris will show you how to capture a scene quickly by focusing on simple geometric shapes rather than detail.
The demonstration begins with people in action, showing how to look for shapes instead of faces to create lively, expressive figures. In the second half, Chris will translate one of his colourful oil paintings of a harvester into pastel. Starting on black pastel board, he'll build the subject with simple shapes before applying pastel in layers and developing tone, hue, atmosphere and colour harmony.
Known for his expressive, impressionistic style, Chris is an engaging presenter who welcomes questions and shares practical tips and techniques.
You'll leave with new ideas for simplifying complex subjects such as people, vehicles and machinery, skills that can be applied to both town and rural scenes.
If you've never attended one of our Sunshine Coast pastel demonstrations, this is the perfect opportunity. You'll be warmly welcomed by a friendly group of fellow pastel enthusiasts, so come along and enjoy an inspiring evening.
