KISS (Keep it simple sweetie) – Simplifying Colour, Tone & Texture in the Landscape
Does the colour green in the landscape feel complicated? The Australian landscape is vast and ever-changing, and many artists find themselves thinking, “I just need to buy one more pastel!”
In this workshop, you’ll learn how to simplify colour by understanding how to mix greens and, more importantly, how to truly see colour in the landscape. We’ll begin by controlling tone through blocking in and wetting pastel techniques to simplify the scene, then explore colour temperature and intensity to create depth and distance in your painting.
On Day 2, the focus shifts to Simplifying Texture. Coastal landscapes are filled with changing textures—from rocks and sand to water and atmospheric effects. Through the use of watercolour underpainting, you’ll establish strong tonal foundations and discover how pastel can be used to create interesting and expressive surface textures.
