RECAP of Sunshine Coast PSA Meeting

15 April 2025

RECAP of SC PSA meeting Tues 15 April 2025  by Andrea Quinn

The wonderful Tricia Reust stepped into the breach for our scheduled presenter at the Sunshine Coast meeting for April at Buderim Craft Cottage. The session was about composition and how we, as artists, can think critically about our own approach.

After a brief recap of compositional models, Tricia led us through a series of landscapes, florals, and portraits, and asked us to consider how compositional framework was applied by the artist.

Nobody was safe! Monet, Renoir, Van Gogh, Picasso – all were subject to Tricia’s analytical eye to reveal what worked well, and…perhaps…not so well. Yes, even the great masters were not always “academically accurate”. Well, except the pre-Raphaelites, in Tricia’s view.

Sometimes when we feel something is wrong with our own work, we need to trust the feeling and find ways to discover the problem. Thank you, Tricia, for the tips and tricks to help turn that uncomfortable intuition into magic!
